#8 – BAR MATCHLESS

WHAT’S THERE NOW: NOTHING. But will be soon demolished for -you guessed it- MORE CONDOS.

I’ve put this one off for far too long. Maybe if I didn’t draw it Matchless wouldn’t really be gone… It was our go-to spot for a quick drink and burger for YEARS. I heard a rumor that their iconic sign was taken in by a studio nearby which I hope is true because it’d be a shame if something like that was just tossed out. If anything IT BELONGS IN A MUSEUM.

#7 – GRASSROOTS TAVERN

WHAT’S THERE NOW: It’s been bought out by another owner and will soon become just a standard beer bar. At this moment however it’s vacant. The darkness dwells in Grassroots’s halls.

#6 – THE HABITAT

When I heard this place was closing it broke my heart so much it’s what motivated me to make this series. It was closed due to a Greedy Suburban Landlord hoping a bank rolls in which just makes my blood boil.

WHAT’S THERE NOW: NOTHING

#3 – SEL DE MER

WHAT’S THERE NOW: A burger/bar joint called Concord Hill that’s alright but it’s white empty walls are quite a contrast to Sel De Mer’s homey painting filled atmosphere. For a good while they didn’t serve coffee but only espresso which made me especially salty (I think they’ve since amended their ways though).

#2 – SUSHI PARK

WHAT’S THERE NOW: Nothing—The entire corner of the block was destroyed which included beloved Pommes Frites. There is a small hand made memorial for the 2 who were killed from the explosion. The building’s landlord was found responsible for illegally siphoning gas.

#1 – ART LAND

WHAT’S THERE NOW: Another bar, Noorman’s Kil opened up here and we didn’t check it out for YEARS out of pure spite. But, eventually we did and it turned out to be a very delightful place not deserving of spite.
